How dining works on 30A
Updated October 19, 2026
Most 30A dining is clustered in walkable town centers, mainly Seaside, Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, WaterColor, Grayton Beach and Gulf Place, so plan meals around where you can park, bike or ride the free tram. Gulf seafood such as grouper, snapper, shrimp and oysters is the local staple. In summer, book ahead wherever reservations are taken, especially for groups.
Where are the restaurants on 30A?
Most restaurants sit in a handful of walkable town centers along Scenic Highway 30A. Pick a hub, park once (or bike in) and walk.
- Seaside: The town is designed so every restaurant is a short walk away, per Seaside. Central Square and Airstream Row are the heart of it.
- Rosemary Beach: Main Street and the squares around it hold most of the town's restaurants and patios.
- Alys Beach: The Town Center around the Amphitheatre is open to the public, with free parking in marked spaces as of October 2026.
- WaterColor: A small Town Center near Western Lake. Parking is aimed at residents and guests, so day visitors do better biking in on the Timpoochee Trail.
- Grayton Beach: A compact, laid-back core near the sand, anchored by the Red Bar. Restaurant parking is tight.
- Gulf Place (Santa Rosa Beach): A colorful town center with shops, restaurants and live music, next to Ed Walline Regional Beach Access.
Smaller clusters include Seacrest's Peddler's Pavilion, Blue Mountain Beach near Redfish Village, and the shops along Seagrove's stretch of 30A.
What seafood should I try on 30A?
Local Gulf seafood is the staple, and Visit South Walton bills the area as the birthplace of "Gulf-to-table" dining. Look for:
- Grouper (including scamp) and snapper, staples of local menus and seafood markets.
- Gulf shrimp, often peel-and-eat or steamed and seasoned.
- Gulf oysters, raw, baked or fried. Visit South Walton has promoted a South Walton "oyster trail."
- Yellowfin tuna and other local catch, depending on the season.
Staying in a rental? Several seafood markets along 30A sell local fish and oysters by the bag, and some will steam shrimp to order.
Do I need reservations on 30A?
In summer, yes, wherever they're offered. Visit South Walton says booking ahead is the best way to get a table, and the larger your group, the harder it is to find the right spot. That matters here: Walton County's Summer 2025 visitor study found the average summer travel party had 5.1 people, 37% traveled in groups of six or more, and 88% of visitors ate at restaurants.
- Many sit-down restaurants take reservations online, some only by phone, and some are walk-in only. Policies can change by season, so check each restaurant before you go.
- If a place doesn't book ahead, eat early or late to avoid the dinner rush.
- Counter-service spots and takeout are the easy fallback for big groups and tired kids.
Happy hour and casual eats
Late-afternoon happy hours are common along 30A, often somewhere between 3 and 6 p.m. Times vary by restaurant and season, so check before you go. Beach bars and patios are part of the culture. The beach itself is different: as of October 2026, Walton County bans glass and ceramic containers on the beach, so bring cans or plastic to a sunset picnic.
Airstream Row in Seaside is 30A's signature casual stop: a row of vintage Airstream trailers serving street food, snacks and drinks near Central Square. Seaside says it's open year-round, but vendor hours vary. Grab food there and walk to the Gulf for a picnic.
Breakfast and coffee tips
- Go early. In summer, morning is the coolest time to walk or bike to a café, and it's best to be on the beach before the lots fill.
- Bike to breakfast. The Timpoochee Trail links Grayton Beach, WaterColor, Seaside and Seagrove, so you can skip the parking hunt.
- Stock the rental. Breakfast at your rental saves time and money, leaving sit-down meals for dinner.
Getting to dinner without the parking hunt
Town-center parking fills on summer evenings. Bike if you can. For Grayton Beach, the free Grayton Express tram runs from the Grayton Beach Park and Ride into the evening, until 9:45 p.m. on the October 2026 off-season schedule. See our free shuttle guide.
