Where to watch the sunset on 30A
Updated October 18, 2026
The easiest sunset spot on 30A is any public beach access, looking west down the shoreline; Regional Beach Accesses add parking and restrooms. Grayton Beach, Deer Lake and Topsail Hill state parks are beautiful at golden hour but close at sunset. On 30A, sunset falls around 7:50 p.m. in late June and around 4:50 p.m. in late December.
Where is the best place to see the sunset on 30A?
Any public beach access works, because the sun sets toward the west and 30A's beaches run east to west along the Gulf. Walk down the boardwalk and look west along the shoreline. Visit South Walton counts more than 50 public beach and bay access points in South Walton, and anyone can walk the wet sand along all 26 miles.
For an easy evening, pick a Regional Beach Access. Visit South Walton says they have parking, restrooms, showers and bike racks. Its list of Regional Beach Accesses includes Dune Allen, Fort Panic, Ed Walline (Gulf Place), Gulfview Heights, Blue Mountain, Santa Clara (Seagrove) and Inlet Beach. Smaller neighborhood beach accesses are designed mainly for walk-up visitors.
Does the sun set over the water on 30A?
It depends on the season. U.S. Naval Observatory data for the middle of 30A puts the sun's position at sunset around 243 degrees (west-southwest) at the December solstice and around 298 degrees (west-northwest) at the June solstice.
- Late fall through winter: the sun drops toward the Gulf to the southwest, the classic "sun over the water" shot.
- Late spring and summer: the sun sets farther north, more over the coastline and dunes to the west. Stand at the water's edge and look west along the beach for the best view.
Can I watch the sunset at Grayton Beach, Deer Lake or Topsail Hill State Park?
You can enjoy golden hour, but plan to leave on time. Florida State Parks are open from 8 a.m. to sunset every day, so the gates and beaches close as the sun goes down.
- Grayton Beach State Park: a mile of beach plus Western Lake, a 100-acre coastal dune lake. The park has no lifeguards.
- Deer Lake State Park: a boardwalk crosses the dunes to the beach with a wide view of the dune system. The park often reaches capacity and may close temporarily, so arrive early.
- Topsail Hill Preserve State Park: about 3 miles of beach and a namesake dune that rises 25 feet above sea level.
Parks can close after storms, so check before you go.
Are there bay or lake sunset spots near 30A?
Yes, if you want calmer water and fewer crowds:
- Cessna Landing Park (1729 County Highway 393 North, Santa Rosa Beach) is a Walton County park on Hogtown Bayou, off Choctawhatchee Bay, with parking, pavilions, picnic areas, restrooms and fishing.
- Eden Gardens State Park in Point Washington has a dock on Tucker Bayou under live oaks. Like the other state parks, it is open 8 a.m. to sunset.
