Blue Mountain Beach visitor guide
Updated October 18, 2026
Blue Mountain Beach sits on 30A between Santa Rosa Beach and Grayton Beach and has South Walton's highest elevation, about 65 feet. Its main public beach is Blue Mountain Regional Beach Access at 2365 S County Hwy 83, with 20 parking spaces and restrooms, plus several walk-up neighborhood accesses along Blue Mountain Road with no parking. The free Beach Park and Ride tram stops at the regional access.
What is Blue Mountain Beach known for?
Blue Mountain Beach is a small, laid-back stretch of 30A known for its height and its flowers. Visit South Walton says it sits at the highest elevation in South Walton, about 65 feet, and takes its name from the blue lupine that blankets the dunes.
It is tucked between Santa Rosa Beach and Grayton Beach, and most of what visitors need (cafes, bike rentals, an ice cream stop and casual seafood) is within walking distance of the beach. Nearby natural areas include coastal dune lakes such as Big Redfish Lake and Draper Lake, and Point Washington State Forest.
Note the mailing address: like much of west 30A, Blue Mountain Beach uses a Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459 address, so do not be surprised when your map says "Santa Rosa Beach."
Where is the public beach access in Blue Mountain Beach?
The main public access is Blue Mountain Regional Beach Access at 2365 S County Hwy 83. Per Walton County's July 2026 access chart, it has 20 parking spaces, restrooms and a managed beach-chair vendor, and it allows bonfires with a permit. The county lists it as not ADA compatible, so travelers who need a ramp may prefer Fort Panic or Ed Walline to the west.
Blue Mountain Road also has walk-up neighborhood beach accesses with no parking:
- Blue Lake Road access, 726 Blue Mountain Rd.
- Seagrade Road access, 590 Blue Mountain Rd.
- Gulf Point Road access, 446 Blue Mountain Rd.
- Ray's Multi Mountain access, 125 Sandy Lane
These are best if you are staying within walking or biking distance. Follow posted signs and stay off the dunes.
Where do you park in Blue Mountain Beach?
Parking is limited, so plan ahead. The 20 spaces at the regional access are the only county beach parking in the neighborhood, and they are not part of the county's paid parking program as of October 2026. When they are full, the easiest option is the free tram:
- From 393 Beach Park and Ride (1668 S County Hwy 393), the Dune Allen Local stops at Blue Mountain RBA.
- From Grayton Beach Park and Ride (1505 County Hwy 283 S), the Blue Mountain Local stops there too.
As of October 2026, both local routes run every 60 minutes from 10 a.m., and the lots charge $5 per day from November through February and $15 per day (or $5 per hour) from March through October. See the free shuttle guide and the beach parking guide for details.
Getting around and nearby
The paved Timpoochee Trail, roughly 19 miles long, runs along 30A through Blue Mountain Beach, so biking is an easy way to reach Grayton Beach to the east or Gulf Place to the west. Lifeguards staff the regional access seasonally (March through October), and the county's beach rules apply here: no glass, fill in holes, and permits are required for fires, dogs and vehicles on the beach.
Hurricane Isaias update: As of October 16, 2026, Walton County Tourism reported that restrooms and the dune walkover at Blue Mountain RBA were open, power and water were on, and the flagpole was working, with crews still clearing debris. Watch for debris in the sand and check the flag before swimming.
