Inlet Beach visitor guide
Updated October 18, 2026
Inlet Beach is the easternmost of South Walton's 16 beach neighborhoods, at the east end of Scenic Highway 30A where it meets US 98 near the Bay County line. It has the largest public beach access in Walton County, Inlet Beach Regional Beach Access, with three entrances on West Park Place Avenue, restrooms, seasonal lifeguards and, as of October 2026, free parking.
What Inlet Beach is like
Inlet Beach is the laid-back, old-school end of 30A: classic cottages on side streets, condos and townhomes, and a lot of public sand. Coming from Panama City Beach, it is the first South Walton beach neighborhood you reach, and Visit South Walton describes it as a classic beach town that generations of families have returned to.
It is also where 30A ends. The road splits from US 98 here, and the Timpoochee Trail (the paved path along 30A) finishes in Inlet Beach after about 18.5 miles. Just east, across the county line in Bay County, is Camp Helen State Park and Lake Powell.
Public beach access and parking
Inlet Beach is the easiest place on eastern 30A to park and walk onto a public beach. Walton County's beach access chart (July 2026) lists these accesses:
- Inlet Beach Regional Beach Access (East), 119 W Park Place Ave: about 10 spaces, restrooms.
- Inlet Beach Regional Beach Access (Central), 303 W Park Place Ave: about 50 spaces, restrooms, ADA compatible.
- Inlet Beach Regional Beach Access (West), 435 W Park Place Ave: about 50 spaces, restrooms.
- South Walton Lakeshore Dr Neighborhood Access, 202 S Walton Lakeshore Dr: 3 spaces.
- Wall Street, Winston Lane and Lupine neighborhood accesses: walk-up only, no parking.
The regional access has three dune walkovers, a beach conditions flag, seasonal lifeguards, an ADA boardwalk and beach wheelchairs, according to Visit South Walton.
As of October 2026, Walton County's paid parking program applies to only three lots (Van Ness Butler, 393 Municipal and Grayton Beach Municipal), so the Inlet Beach lots are not on the paid list. Check posted signs in case that changes.
Getting around
Plan on walking or biking. The Timpoochee Trail runs along 30A through Rosemary Beach and ends in Inlet Beach. The pedestrian underpass at US 98 and 30A lets you cross without dealing with highway traffic, and its walls are lined with 20-by-8-foot murals by 10 local artists.
The county's free Beach Park and Ride trams do not reach this end of 30A. As of October 2026 they run from the 393 and Grayton Beach lots to accesses farther west, so you will need to drive, bike or walk here.
Things to do in Inlet Beach
- Snorkel the reef. One of South Walton's near-shore artificial reefs sits off Inlet Beach. Two tall yellow poles at the foot of a dune line up to point the way. Visit South Walton suggests paddling out by board or kayak.
- Camp Helen State Park. This 180-acre day-use park next door is bordered by the Gulf and Lake Powell, which Florida State Parks calls the state's largest coastal dune lake. As of October 2026 it is open 8 a.m. to sunset and costs $4 per vehicle or $2 per pedestrian or cyclist (honor box). It has trails, historic 1940s resort buildings and fishing in both fresh and salt water. There are no lifeguards.
- Shop and eat in 30Avenue and the Shoppes at Inlet Beach. Both are near the US 98 junction, and the 30Avenue green hosts live music and community events.
Tips for visiting
- Pack it out at night. Walton County requires you to take all personal items off the beach between one hour after dusk and one hour after sunrise. Anything left behind is treated as abandoned and removed.
- Mind the storm notices. After Hurricane Isaias in October 2026, Walton County Tourism posts beach access and multi-use path updates online. Florida State Parks also listed Camp Helen's beach trail as closed as of October 14, 2026.
- Bonfires need a permit. The regional access is a bonfire-eligible location on the county chart, but local services handle the permits and setup.
- Arrive early in peak season. About 110 spaces fill on busy days. Use Wall Street or Winston Lane if you can walk in.
